Dividends, Investing and Options Trading for Week Ending 5/27/22

After trending down for several weeks, the stock market rebounded this week. Both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ finished the week up over 6%. While it was nice to see my account values grow this week especially after falling for weeks, I have been enjoying buying stocks at a discount. With that said, let’s check out how my accounts did this week.

Dividends

This week the only dividend I received was in the Roth IRA:

  • Nationwide NASDAQ Risk Managed Income ETF (NUSI) – $2.15

The dividend is pending reinvestment into the underlying position. For the week, I received a total of $2.15 in dividends.

Buys/Sells

This week I made the following buys in the Traditional IRA:

  • 3M Co. (MMM) – 0.11 shares
  • Tractor Supply Co. (TSCO) – 0.10 shares
  • U.S. Bancorp (USB) – 0.50 shares
  • Vanguard Total Stock Market Index ETF (VTI) – 0.10 shares

This week I made the following buys in the Roth IRA:

  • American Tower Corp. (AMT) – 0.025 shares
  • Amplify CWP Enhanced Dividend ETF (DIVO) – 0.252 shares
  • Crown Castle International Corp. (CCI) – 0.095 shares
  • Digital Realty Trust Inc. (DLR) – 0.032 shares
  • Huntington Bancshares Inc. (HBAN) – 1 share
  • Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. (IIPR) – 0.229 shares
  • J.P. Morgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI) – 0.258 shares
  • Main Street Capital Corp. (MAIN) – 0.171 shares
  • Medical Properties Trust Inc. (MPW) – 1 share
  • Philip Morris International Inc. (PM) -0.066 shares
  • STAG Industrial Inc. (STAG) – 0.20 shares

Options Trading

This week I made the following options trades in the Traditional IRA:

Closed Positions
  • Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $76.00 with an expiration date of October 21, 2022. The premium received for this trade was -$335.68. I held this trade for about 82 days for a profit of $131.63.
  • General Motors Co. (GM) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $40.00 with an expiration date of May 27, 2022. The premium received for this trade was -$2.03. I held this trade for about 8 days for a profit of $12.28.
  • Verizon (VZ) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $51.50 with an expiration date of May 27, 2022. The premium received for this trade was -$3.03. I held this trade for about 7 days for a profit of $4.53.
Opened Positions
  • AT&T Inc. (T) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $22.00 with an expiration date of June 3, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $5.63.
  • Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $20.00 with an expiration date of May 27, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $4.71.
  • Camping World Holdings (CWH) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $28.50 with an expiration date of June 3, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $39.31.
  • Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $76.00 with an expiration date of January 20, 2023. The premium received from this trade was $384.31.
  • General Motors Co. (GM) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $40.00 with an expiration date of June 10, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $23.31.
  • Verizon (VZ) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $52.50 with an expiration date of June 3, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $7.56.
Expired Positions
  • Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) – a covered call at a strike price of $20.00 with an expiration date of May 27, 2022 expired out of the money. I held this contract for about 5 days for a profit of $4.71.

For the week, I received a total of $124.09 in options premium.

Account Updates

The Traditional IRA finished the week at about $120,020 invested. As a result, this account gained $6,059 week over week.

The Roth IRA finished the week at about $3,318 invested. As a result, this account gained $320 week over week. This includes a contribution of $180 this week.

The 401k finished the week at about $12,315 invested. As a result, this account gained $503 week over week.

The taxable brokerage account finished the week at about $339 invested. As a result, this account gained $19 week over week.

The little bit of bitcoin in my account finished the week at about $16. As a result, this account stayed flat this week.

This brings the total amount invested to about $136,008. As a result, the total amount invested increased by $6,901. You can see all of the positions in my portfolio by clicking “Portfolios” in the menu above.

Wrap Up

This week I received a total of $126.24 of income from dividends and options premium. While this week was a down week for dividends, it was a decent week for options premium. Even though the market was up this week, I continued to invest. I will continue to invest whether the stock market goes up or down because I know that I am not able to time the market. In my opinion, it is better to keep investing than to try to time the bottom of stock market. That wraps it up for this week. Thanks for following along!
