Dividends, Investing and Options Trading Weekly Update 8/12/22

This week was another green week for the stock market with the S&P 500 and NASDAQ both up around 3%. While it is nice to see my account values go up, it can be a little tougher to find stocks that are undervalued as the stock market continues to rise. Let’s check out my weekly update on dividends, investing and options trading.

Dividends

The following dividends were received in the Traditional IRA this week:

  • Enterprise Products Partners (EPD) – $50.34

This week I received the following dividends in the taxable brokerage account:

  • Deere & Co. (DE) – $0.05
  • ASML Holding NV (ASML) – $0.03 (after fees)

All of the dividends received this week were deposited into the core account to be reinvested at a future time. The total amount of dividends received this week was $50.42.

Investing

In the Traditional IRA, I made the following buys this week:

  • U.S. Bancorp (USB) – 4 shares
  • Vanguard Total Stock Market Index ETF (VTI) – 0.10 shares
  • Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) – 0.50 shares

In the Roth IRA, I made the following buys this week:

  • Store Capital Corp. (STOR) – 1 share
  • Medical Properties Trust Inc. (MPW) – 1 share
  • Digital Realty Trust Inc. (DLR) – 0.10 shares
  • Vanguard Growth Index ETF (VUG) – 0.037 shares
  • Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) – 0.323 shares
  • J.P. Morgan NASDAQ Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPQ) – 0.201 shares
  • J.P. Morgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI) – 0.347 shares
  • Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. (IIPR) – 0.255 shares
  • Amplify CWP Enhanced Dividend ETF (DIVO) – 0.556 shares

The following buys were made in the 401k this week:

  • Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Fund – 2.4658 units
  • Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund – 8.2484 units
  • DFA Commodity Strategy Portfolio – 1.2806 units
  • Vanguard Total International Stock Market Index Fund – 2.1987 units

Options Trading

The following options trades were made in the Traditional IRA this week:

Closed Positions
  • SoFi Technologies (SOFI) – bought a closing transaction on a cash secured put at a strike price of $7.50 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022. The premium received for this trade was -$1.03 after fees. I held this trade for about 5 days resulting in a profit of $8.43.
Opened Positions
  • SoFi Technologies (SOFI) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $7.50 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $9.46 after fees.
  • Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $11.00 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $122.31 after fees.
  • Camping World Holdings (CWH) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $27.00 with an expiration date of August 19, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $24.31 after fees.
  • SoFi Technologies (SOFI) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $7.50 with an expiration date of August 26, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $29.31 after fees.
  • SoFi Technologies (SOFI) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $7.50 with an expiration date of August 19, 2022. The premium received for this trade was $34.31 after fees.
Expired Positions
  • Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) – a covered call at a strike price of $18.50 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022 expired out of the money. I held this trade for about 12 days resulting in a profit of $6.61.
  • Verizon (VZ) – a covered call at a strike price of $48.50 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022 expired out of the money. I held this trade for about 12 days resulting in a profit of $5.66.
  • Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) – a cash secured put at a strike price of $11.00 with an expiration date of August 12, 2022 expired in the money. As a result, I will be assigned 100 shares of PLTR. I held this trade for about 5 days resulting in a profit of $122.31.

This week I received a total of $218.67 in options premium.

Account Updates

The Traditional IRA finished the week at about $119,588. As a result, the account value increased by $2,890 from the previous week.

The Roth IRA finished the week at about $4,668. As a result, the account value increased by $307 from the previous week. This includes a cash contribution of $175 made this week.

The 401k finished the week at about $13,984. As a result, the account value increased by $641 from the previous week. This includes the regular bi-weekly contribution of $269.

The taxable brokerage account finished the week at about $466. As a result, the account value increased by $18 from the previous week.

The little bit of bitcoin that I own finished the week at almost $16. This is up $1 from the previous week.

This brings the total amount invested to about $138,722. Week over week, the total amount invested increased by $3,857. You can see all of the positions in my portfolio by clicking “Overall Portfolio” in the menu above.

Wrap Up

The combined income from dividends and options premium totaled $269.09 this week. This week the dividends slowed down compared to last week but options premium was up this week. Next week should see dividend payments for more companies and hopefully I will be able to keep up the options premium. That wraps it up for this week. Thanks for following along!
