Dividends, Investing and Options Trading Weekly Update 9/3/22

The stock market was down again this week with both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ finishing the week down. Despite the stock market being down I continue to stick to my plan. I view this as a great learning experience. I get to see how my accounts perform in a down market including how much income the accounts are producing. This should help me in the future when I am retired to understand that even when the stock market drops and my account values fall I will still be able to produce income from my accounts. Alright, let’s check out my weekly update on dividends, investing and options trading.

The following dividends were received the the Traditional IRA this week:

The following dividends were received in the Roth IRA this week:

The dividend from ENB was deposited into the core position to be reinvested at a future time. The remaining dividends were reinvested back into the underlying positions.

Account Updates

The Traditional IRA finished the week at about $110,744. As a result, the account value decreased by -$3,814 from the previous week.

The Roth IRA finished the week at about $4,703. As a result, the account value decreased by -$59 from the previous week.

The 401k finished the week at about $13,366. As a result, the account value decreased by -$135 from the previous week.

The taxable brokerage account finished the week at about $417. As a result, the account value increased by $6 from the previous week. This includes the regular $25 monthly contribution.

The little bit of bitcoin that I own finished the week at about $13. As a result, this is even with the previous week.

This brings the total amount invested to about $129,243. Week over week, the total amount invested decreased by -$4,002. You can see all of the positions in my portfolio by clicking “Overall Portfolio” in the menu above.

Wrap Up

This week I did receive $26.70 in interest from my bank accounts. The combined income from dividends, options premium and interest totaled $183.37 this week. One thing I have learned in the short time I have been investing is that no matter whether the market is going up or going down, dividends from quality companies will continue to come in. I can also generate income from accounts by trading options, but I still have a lot to learn in this area. Month to month, the income from options trading has not been very consistent. Over time, I should be able improve my options strategy to provide a reliable source of income. That wraps it up for this week. Thanks for following along!
