Dividends, Investing and Options Trading for Week Ending 1/21/22

The markets took quite a tumble down this week. The S&P 500 dropped over 5% this week while the NASDAQ was down about 7%. The stock market has not seen a week like this in quite awhile. While some were in a panic because of the market decline I look at it as an opportunity. For me, I followed my plan this week and continued buy assets that were on sale this week. Let’s check out the details for the week!

Dividends

The following dividends were received in the Traditional IRA this week:

  • U.S. Bancorp (USB) – $14.95
  • DTE Energy Co. (DTE) – $18.46

The dividend from USB was reinvested back into the underlying position. The dividend from DTE was deposited into the core account to be reinvested at a future time.

The following dividends were received in the Roth IRA this week:

  • Store Capital Corp. (STOR) – $1.59
  • Stag Industrial Inc. (STAG) – $0.13
  • Main Street Capital Corp. (MAIN) – $0.17

All of the dividends received in the Roth IRA this week were reinvested back into the underlying positions.

The total amount of dividends received this week was $35.30.

Buys/Sells

The following buys were made in the Traditional IRA this week:

  • Vanguard Total Stock Market Index ETF (VTI) – 0.306 shares
  • U.S. Bancorp (USB) – 1 share

The following buys were made in the Roth IRA this week:

  • Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) – 0.034 shares
  • Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) – 0.063 shares
  • Invesco NASDAQ Next Generation ETF (QQQJ) – 0.169 shares
  • Nationwide NASDAQ Risk Managed Income ETF (NUSI) – 0.387 shares
  • J.P. Morgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI) – 0.328 shares
  • Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. (IIPR) – 0.355 shares
  • Amplify CWP Enhanced Dividend ETF (DIVO) – 0.407 shares
  • American Tower Corp. (AMT) – 0.081 shares

No sells were made this week.

Options Trading

The following options trades were made in the Traditional IRA this week:

  • Kroger Co. (KR) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $47 expiring January 21, 2022 for a premium of -$216.67 after fees. This trade was held for about 40 days and resulted in a loss of -$172.35.
  • Kroger Co. (KR) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $47 expiring on February 25, 2022 for a premium of $289.32 after fees.
  • Hyliion Holdings (HYLN) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $7.50 expiring on January 21, 2022 for a premium of -$2.02 after fees. This trade was held for about 14 days and resulted in a profit of $8.40.
  • Hyliion Holdings (HYLN) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $7 expiring on April 14, 2022 for a premium of $27.32 after fees.
  • United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) – bought a closing transaction on a covered call at a strike price of $12.50 expiring on January 19, 2024 for a premium of -$235.67 after fees. This trade was held for about 89 days and resulted in a loss of -$36.35.
  • United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) – sold a covered call at strike price of $7.50 expiring on January 21, 2022 for a premium of $399.32 after fees. This contract expired in the money and the shares were called away after the market closed on January 21, 2022.
  • Genius Sports Ltd. (GENI) – a cash secured put on two contracts expired in the money on January 21, 2022. 200 shares were assigned to me at a price of $7.50 per share.

The total amount of options premium received this week was $261.60.

Account Updates

The Traditional IRA finished the week at about $119,669. This is down -$5,000 from the previous week.

The Roth IRA finished the week at about $2,119. This is down -$18 from the previous week. A contribution of $100 was made this week so the account was actually down quite a bit more.

The 401k finished the week at about $10,316. This is down -$318 from the previous week.

The taxable brokerage account finished the week at about $323. This is down -$28 from the previous week.

The little bit of bitcoin that I own finished the week at about $18. This is down -$3 from the previous week.

The total amount invested is now about $132,445. This is down -$5,367 from the previous week. All of the positions in my portfolio can be seen by clicking “Portfolios” in the menu or clicking here.

Wrap Up

The total amount of dividends and options premium received this week was $296.90. The account values were down this week but the accounts continue to provide cashflow. At this stage of my investing journey I welcome down markets. I can buy more stocks to increase my future cash flow. As always, I continue to work my plan. That wraps it for this week.
