SCHD Raising Payout

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) just announced the payout for its Q2 dividend. This announcement results in SCHD raising the payout to $0.7038 per share which is up from $0.5176 in Q1. This raise of the payout is great news for investors in SCHD. Currently, this puts the dividend yield for SCHD at 4.16%.

My Increase

SCHD is the largest holding in my portfolio. This raise of $0.1862 per share means that I will receive an extra $25.75 when the dividend is paid out on June 27, 2022. This also moves SCHD into the highest position in projected annual dividend income (PADI) in my portfolio by edging out Altria Group (MO).

Considerations

While this is great news, there are some things to consider. The ex-date for SCHD is today, June 22, 2022. So, if you do not already own shares of SCHD then you will have to wait until next quarter to receive a payout of dividends. Also, SCHD has a variable payout that fluctuates from quarter to quarter as can be seen in the picture at the top of the article. Just because the payout is this high for Q2 does not mean it will be this high in future quarters.

Conclusion

One of the main things I enjoy about dividend growth investing is the consistent raises. SCHD is a quality ETF that consistently raises its dividend which is why I have made it my top holding. For those of you who hold SCHD, congratulations on the payout raise. For those of you who do not hold SCHD, now might be a good time to do some research to determine if it is a good fit for your portfolio.
