Dividends, Investing and Options Trading for the Week Ending 6/12/21

On a personal note, I am glad that I have an emergency fund. On Friday afternoon my hot water heater broke and began leaking water. I was able to go buy a new hot water heater and get it installed that evening. Having an emergency fund made a stressful situation a little less stressful. I did not have to worry about how I was going to pay for the repair. I could focus on making the necessary repairs without worrying about the financial consequences. From an investing standpoint it was a relatively passive week. I collected a few dividends and rolled over a couple of options trades. Even without me doing much active investing this week all of accounts were up for the week. Hmm…maybe the accounts are up because I left them alone? Let’s check out the details for the week below.

Dividends

The only dividends that I received this week were in the Traditional IRA. Here are the dividends I received this week:

  • Tractor Supply Co. (TSCO) – $6.24
  • Johnson & Johnson Co. (JNJ) – $25.76
  • International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) – $42.09
  • Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) – $14.08

The total amount of dividends I received this week was $88.17. The dividends from TSCO and JNJ were reinvested into the underlying companies. The dividends from IBM and MSFT will be reinvested into other companies in the future. Both of those positions are at scale and I will use the dividends to build up some other positions.

Buys/Sells

No buys or sells were made this week in any of the accounts.

Options Trading

The following is the options trading activity this week in the Traditional IRA:

  • XL Fleet Corp. (XL) – closed out a cash secured put at a strike price of $7 expiring on June 18, 2021 for a premium of -$10.03 after fees.
  • XL Fleet Corp. (XL) – sold a cash secured put at a strike price of $8 expiring on July 16, 2021 for a premium of $82.31 after fees.
  • Verizon (VZ) – closed a covered call at a strike price of $60 expiring on June 18, 2021 for a premium of -$7.03 after fees.
  • Verizon (VZ) – sold a covered call at a strike price of $59 expiring on June 25, 2021 for a premium of $15.31 after fees.

The total option premium received this week was $80.56.

Account Updates

The Traditional IRA finished the week at $116,828 which is up about $645 over last week.

The 401k finished the week at $7,582 which is up about $51 over last week.

The Roth IRA finished the week at $559 which is up about $8 over last week.

The taxable brokerage account finished the week at $268 which is up about $11 over last week.

The total amount invested across all accounts is about $124,969 which is up by about $447 over last week. I have started included all of portfolio positions on the Portfolios tab above or you can click this link: https://bluecollarbill.com/portfolios/ .

Wrap Up

The combined income from dividends and options premium this was $168.73 which will all be reinvested to continue to grow the accounts. While on a personal level it was a hectic week with hot water heater repair, on the financial side it was a relatively boring week. Boring can be good when investing. All of my accounts grew this week with little effort on my part. As these accounts grow it gets me that much closer to reaching financial independence.
